Synopsis

From director and producer Paul Van Carter (The Guv’Nor, Churchill) and producer Nick Taussig (Churchill), Fred is a sombre exploration into the psyche of former London gangster Freddie Foreman: 85 years old, allegedly responsible for multiple murders, and nearing the end of his life. An associate of the Krays, Fred was a ruthless criminal, feared and revered by his contemporaries, and infamous amongst the British underworld. With archive footage, real-life stories and the help of contributors including eminent criminologist Dick Hobbs, this incisive character study delves deep into Fred’s life story to uncover the socio-economic and psychological factors that turned a young East End boy into a ruthless gangster said to be responsible for nearly one hundred murders.
